The revenue of the company was hurt due to pressure from payers to reduce cost of drugs along with the efforts of the company to improve sales at reduced prices, according to a Morningstar Inc.’s analyst. Walgreens – The Origin
In 1901, Walgreen was started as a small 50×30 ft. neighborhood drugstore. It was a prominent pharmacy in its neighborhood in a town Dixon. Eventually, it became one of the most reputed American corporations. Charles R. Walgreen, Sr. was a Galesburg resident who started the pharmacy store on Cottage Grove and Bowen Awe in Chicago. By 1913, the company had grown to launch four stores on South side of Chicago. In 1915, he opened his fifth store. In 1916, he opened four more stores. By 1920, the chain has total of 20 stores. In the year 1922, the company launched malted milkshake and established ice cream plants. It started opening stores out of plush locations next year.
